Widely grown in the past for it's medicinal properties, when grown in the herbaceous border the pale pink lightly scented flowers will attract butterflies and bees to the garden. A hardy rhizomatous perennial.
A native of the US prairies, now listed as threatened due to the loss of its habitat. The name derives from the Greek ‘echinos’, meaning spiny hedgehog or sea urchin, referring to the central cone and ‘pallida’ meaning pale.
