Columbine (Aquilegia) - William Guiness

This cultivar arose at the Guinness estate in Ireland, next to Daphne Shackleton’s garden, who gave its seed to the National Plant Collection of Aquilegia. Dramatic, for late spring to early summer borders. A hardy glabrous perennial.

A native of western, central and southern Europe, it has also naturalized in North America. The name derives from the Latin ‘aquillia’ an eagle, referring to the shape of the spurs and their resemblance to talons.
