Eryngium - Miss Willmotts Ghost

Named for Miss Ellen Willmott, 1853-1934, who loved the plant so much she dropped seeds of it wherever she went. This dramatic variety produces ornate cones with collars of prickly bracts. A hardy glabrous perennial.

A cosmopolitan species whit a widespread natural habitat. The candied roots called ‘eringoes’ were thought to be an aphrodisiac. The genus name derives from the Greek for ‘a prickly plant’.
